William Blount was born in North Carolina in 1749. He was a veteran of the Revolutionary War, a delegate to the Continental Congress, and a signer of the United States Constitution.

In 1797, Blount became the focus of the first-ever federal impeachment using the very procedures that are outlined in the Constitution. The lessons and implications from Blount's impeachment still impact us to this day.
